Road Trip

Our first weekend here we decided to take a short road trip.  We headed to Manuel Antonio National Park, which is the smallest of the National Parks here in Costa Rica, however it is said that the rainforest here is most dense in wildlife, monkeys in particular. In addition, the park also has some beaches that Forbes magazine has rated the best in the world. 

We left early Saturday morning, and the drive took about two and half hours—so we arrived around nine o’clock and spent a couple hours in the morning at the pool. Later, we explored the small town nearby, Quepos, and made some tour arrangements for the following day. All of the hotels are on the mountain above the park, so they all have a great view of the beaches and forest.

You can visit the park without a guide, however our guidebook explained “unless you are skilled at rainforest hiking, we highly recommend a guide,” therefore, we did. And we weren’t disappointed.  Our guide was amazing, and had the ability to spot animals we would have never seen without him.  We saw dozens of white-face monkeys, about 10 Howler monkeys, some Sloths, Toucans, and lots of iguanas, crabs, and scary spiders.

Despite that fact that this is the rainy season, we have been blessed with amazing weather…no rain at all the first week. It was a great trip!

In other news, David is growing a beard.
