A busy May

May has come and gone, and along with it lots of activities and visitors. My parents came for a visit for a few days early in the month. We got out and did quite a bit of sightseeing in the area. We started with a home tour in the Swiss Avenue Historic District in Dallas. We had the chance to tour eight, large century homes in this beautiful area.

My mother was born in Dallas and lived here for the first few months of her life, but not long enough to  try some Texas BBQ. My parents had there first experience with Texas brisket here at Rudy's, one of our favorite local spots. 

We also took time to go visit my grandmother's twin sister and her daughter, who live east of Dallas. A tour of Dallas isn't complete without a stop by the site where JFK was assassinated, which now houses an interesting museum. 

The following weekend David took off to Denver to celebrate his good friend Matt's last days as a bachelor. They went white water rafting and spent some quality guy time together. Matt will be getting married in just a few short days from now!

 

Amidst the visitors and traveling, David was inspired to buy a power washer. He has since attacked nearly every available surface in the front and the back of the house. It looks great!

 We celebrated Memorial Day with a visit from David's family. We spent much of the weekend exploring Dallas/Fort Worth. The boys kept Lucy busy, and she surely enjoyed all of the attention.

We spent several hours at the new Perot Museum of Science and Nature downtown. It was very kid-friendly and a lot of fun for all ages.

As many of you know, this month brought a variety of significant storms to this area. We had our first big tornado warning, however we managed to come out of it with just some heavy rain and storms. 

Lucy and I enjoyed a few days off this last week as I prepared to go back to class, and Sunday the neighborhood had a block party. It was a great chance to meet lots of our neighbors. We were surprised at how many young people/families there were--until now we thought the neighborhood was mostly full of retirees. 

This month was also a big milestone. We celebrated 10 years together! This picture was taken at the Kentucky Derby in May 2003.

And as of last night I am officially back to school! I am going to try to recruit/coerce David to write our next post, as this blog is turning into my own...
